Understanding Application Deadlines

Applying to Colleges

  • Apply early in the fall of your senior year.  Most institutional scholarships have deadlines fall semester.

  • Important application deadline terms to know:

    • Early Action - nonbinding early application deadline.

    • Early Decision - BINDING early application deadline; if accepted, you agree to attend and withdraw all other applications.

    • Regular Decision - nonbinding; decisions are made after the deadline.

    • Rolling Decision - decisions are made as applications are received until they are full.

  • Do not wait until the deadline to submit your application, as you may experience technical difficulties!

  • Check admission requirements to make sure you fall within their range

  • Consider submitting three applications to:

    • your first choice (target)

    • your second choice

    • to a school that you are SURE of being accepted

  • Not all colleges or scholarships require a letter of recommendation - check their application requirements

  • If a letter is required - Most colleges require an academic teacher you had junior or senior year, in addition to your counselor

  • Contact ONLY individuals (teachers, employers, community/church leaders) who will write you a POSITIVE letter.

  • Plan well in advance! Remember, teachers will receive MANY requests for recommendation letters and there is no guarantee he/she will be able to write one for you. Ask the teacher in person if he/she will write one for you, before entering their email address into your application. Teachers set their own policy of how much advanced notice they require.

Requesting Transcripts

Remember, a transcript must be sent to the college(s) you apply to, once your application is complete.  Be aware of deadlines!  All colleges and technical schools will also require a final transcript; they must have proof of graduation.

Do not forget to submit necessary recommendation forms to your counselor for colleges (or scholarships) that require a counselor rec or school report. If you require a recommendation or school report, you must complete a Student Profile Sheet (click HERE) and email it to your counselor.

  • A minimum of 2 school weeks is required for recommendations. Teachers may require requests be submitted with more advance notice.

  • It is the student's responsibility to make sure all application requirements have been completed by the deadline.

Cost: $2 per official transcript. One final transcript is free. During the school year transcripts should be paid for via MyPaymentsPlus. If unable to use MyPaymentsPlus, please contact your counselor. During the summer, please call (678) 594-8190 to request a transcript.

UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS: FREE. Students may stop by the counseling office and request one.

OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS: $2 per transcript. For college applications, this is a 2 step process. If a counselor letter of recommendation or school report needs to be completed, you must also submit a Student Profile Sheet to your counselor.

  1. Request via MyPaymentsPlus or in the Counseling Office. If requesting in the Counseling Office, please bring the exact amount as we may not have change.

  2. SENIORS: if the transcript is for a college application, you will also need to add the request in Naviance. Click HERE for instructions
